Troubleshooting
Find your problem in the list. Do the steps in the given sequence. If the problem continues, send an email to support@dictanote.co.
Microphone problems
AudioScribe shows “Microphone access denied”
Your browser or your computer blocks the microphone.
- Select the lock or settings icon on the left of the browser address bar.
- Set Microphone to Allow.
- Refresh the page and record again.
If the problem continues, look at the settings of your operating system:
- macOS: open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone. Turn on your browser. Then quit and open the browser again.
- Windows: open Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone. Turn on Microphone access and Let desktop apps access your microphone.
- iPhone and iPad: open Settings > Apps > Safari > Microphone. Select Allow or Ask.
- Android: open Settings > Apps > Chrome > Permissions > Microphone. Select Allow only while using the app.
The extension side panel shows “Enable your microphone”
- Select Enable in the side panel.
- On the setup page, select Enable microphone.
- When Chrome asks, select Allow.
If the setup page shows “Chrome is blocking microphone access”, select the microphone icon in the address bar. Select Allow. Then select Enable microphone again.
The recording has no sound or the wrong sound
- Make sure that your browser uses the correct microphone. A wireless headset can be connected but not active. Then the browser uses the built-in microphone, which can be too far from your mouth. Disconnect the headset and connect it again.
- If you see “No Audio Recorded” or “We could not find any usable audio”, the microphone did not record your voice. Test the microphone in a different app.
Transcript problems
The transcript is incorrect or has no meaning
- Stop all other audio before you record. Music or a video in a different tab can interfere, also when it is muted.
- Do not record audio that plays from the same device. AudioScribe records your microphone, not the sound from your speakers. To transcribe a recording, upload the file.
- Set your Input Language. Do not use Auto Detect. Refer to Languages.
AudioScribe spells a name or a term incorrectly
Add the word to Special words.
The note has content that I did not say
- Set the Rewrite Level to Cleanup or Medium.
- With Pro, set the Writer to Precise.
Refer to Rewrite level and length. You can always compare with View Original Transcript.
Only a part of my recording is in the note
- On a phone, keep AudioScribe open and on the screen during the recording. If you go to a different app, the browser can stop the microphone.
- Make sure that the recording is not longer than the limit of your plan. Free notes stop at 3 minutes. Pro notes stop at 30 minutes.
The processing does not finish
- Wait two minutes. Long recordings need more time.
- If AudioScribe shows “Something went wrong”, select Retry.
- If the retry fails, select Download Audio to save your recording. Then send an email to support.
Upload problems
- “File is too large”: the maximum is 25 MB. Make the file smaller or cut it into parts.
- “Uploading audio files is a Pro feature”: upgrade to AudioScribe Pro.
- The file does not show in the file picker: AudioScribe accepts only M4A, MP3, MP4, MPEG, WEBM and FLAC files. Convert the file to MP3.
Account and plan problems
“You have used all 10 free notes this month”
The free plan has 10 notes each month. Wait until the next month, or upgrade to Pro.
“Free notes are limited to 3 minutes”
Record a shorter note, or upgrade to Pro. Pro notes can be 30 minutes long.
I paid for Pro, but AudioScribe shows the free plan
- Wait one minute. Then refresh AudioScribe.
- Make sure that you are signed in with the same account that you used to pay. Select your account icon to see the email address.
- If the problem continues, send an email to support. Include the email address on your receipt.
I cannot find my notes
Make sure that you are signed in with the correct account. If you used Google to sign in one time and email the next time, you can have two accounts.
