Voice to text for Slack

Voice In lets you write Slack messages using real-time speech-to-text in Chrome and Edge. Your words appear directly in the active text field and remain editable before you submit or send them.

Note: You need to use the web-based Slack at app.slack.com to use voice typing. Voice In doesn't work in the Slack desktop app.

How to Open Your Slack Workspace in a Browser

  1. Find Your Workspace URL: Slack workspace URLs typically follow this format: https://[your-workspace-name].slack.com (for example hfmovement.slack.com). If you don’t know your workspace URL, you can:
    • Check for any emails from Slack, which often include your workspace URL.
    • Visit the Slack homepage (slack.com) and click "Sign In". This will guide you to your workspace(s).
    • Check in the desktop app. When you click on your business logo, it should display the workspace URL.
    • Ask your workspace administrator.
  2. Open Your Browser: Copy and paste your workspace URL into your browser's address bar and press Enter.
  3. Log In: If prompted, log in using your Slack email and password.

What to Do If It Asks to Open the App

The first time when you log in, Slack might ask you to open the desktop app:

  • Ignore the prompt and wait for about 5 seconds.
  • Click the option that says "Use Slack in your browser".
  • After logging in, the next time you open the workspace URL, it should directly open Slack in the browser.
Tip for Future Access: Once you've logged in to your workspace in the browser, bookmark the workspace URL for easy access. In the future, simply visiting the URL (e.g., https://[your-workspace-name].slack.com) will open your workspace directly in the browser.
