Actually, I should clarify: they can be stored inside KeePassXC, but it requires an extra step to make them "talk" to each other.

By default, Cryptomator only looks at your system's built-in keychain (like Windows Hello or macOS Keychain). If you want Cryptomator to pull passwords directly from KeePassXC, you need to use a third-party plugin.

1. The "Official" Way (Using a Plugin)

There is a community-developed plugin called keepassxc-cryptomator that bridges the two apps.

* What it does: It adds "KeePassXC" as an option in Cryptomator’s settings under "General" -> "Store passwords with..."

* How to set it up:

* Download the plugin file (a .jar file) from the keepassxc-cryptomator GitHub.

* Locate your Cryptomator Plugins folder. On Windows, this is usually at %AppData%\Roaming\Cryptomator\Plugins. (You may need to create the "Plugins" folder if it doesn't exist).

* Restart Cryptomator.

* In Cryptomator Preferences, select KeePassXC as your password storage backend.

2. The "Manual" Way (No Plugin)

If you don't want to install plugins, you can simply store the password in KeePassXC as a standard entry.

* The Workflow: You open KeePassXC, copy the vault password, and paste it into Cryptomator.

* Pro Tip: You can set up Auto-Type (as mentioned before) so that when you click "Unlock" in Cryptomator, you just hit a hotkey and KeePassXC "types" the password for you.

3. The "Secret Service" Way (Linux Only)

On Linux, KeePassXC can act as a "Secret Service" provider. If you enable this in KeePassXC settings, Cryptomator (which looks for a Secret Service/GNOME Keyring) will think it's talking to the system, but it's actually pulling the password from your open KeePassXC database.

Summary Table

| Method | Convenience | Setup Difficulty |

|---|---|---|

| Plugin | High (Auto-unlocks) | Medium (Requires manual file move) |

| Auto-Type | Medium (One hotkey) | Easy (Standard KeePassXC feature) |

| Manual | Low (Copy/Paste) | Zero (No setup) |

Would you like the specific file paths for the Plugins folder on macOS or Linux, or are you on Windows?
